Some of the spammy practices nowadays like Buying links, stuffing your site with keywords, scraping content, producing poor quality content. The days of faulty SEO tricks are over.

If you follow the given steps and implement it then ‘ Thou shall not be spammed ‘.

But before we start talking about the ways and solutions to Google penalties, let me give you an Abridged version of  SEO, types of SEO, Google penalty, Google’s Algorithm and its types of Algorithm.

So what is SEO and what are its types

An SEO( Search Engine Optimization) is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine.

There are 3 types of SEO :

1) On-page SEO

It includes strategies to optimize an individual page on a website. On-page type includes Keyword research, content creation and keyword optimization ( ie. using target keyword in all the right places and using good meta tag SEO)

2) Technical SEO

It is a process of optimizing your website for the Search engines to crawl, interpret and index your website without any problems.

3) off-page SEO

It refers to all of the activities that you and others do away from your website to raise the ranking of a page with the search engine

With that said, now what is a penalty?

From the ranking point of view, penalty implies any negative impact on a website’s organic search rankings caused by an algorithm update or a manual action.

According to Hubspot, “A Google penalty is a punishment against a website whose content conflicts with the marketing practices enforced by Google. This penalty can come as a result of an update to Google’s ranking algorithm, or a manual review that suggests a web page using “black hat” SEO tactics.”

In short, anything you do that violates Google’s Webmaster Guidelines can result in a penalty against your website. The two main types of penalty :

a) Manual – based

Besides Google’s algorithmic penalties, it’s also possible for a search engine employee to manually cause your website to go either up or down in rankings.

Here’s how to see a manual penalty,

1)Log in to your Google search console*

2)Open the report of the Manual action

3)You’ll get an email alert

b) Algorithm-based

They are basically sanctioning a website by one of Google’s algorithms. It shouldn’t be confused with the Manual penalty, where employees of the Search engine manually penalize your site. Algorithmic penalties are quite tricky to identify because unlike a manual penalty you won’t get an email alert after penalizing. So if you have noticed that your traffic has dropped out of nowhere, it could be because of an algorithmic penalty.

  1) Google panda penalty :

The Google Panda algorithm aims to prevent poor quality content from making it to the top of search results.

It makes sure that a website which provides poor quality content, it will be hard for your web pages to rank, examples like thin pages, widespread duplicate content or product pages with manufacturer-provided descriptions.

And ways to prevent the Google Panda Penalty is by rewriting/improving your thin content, eliminating duplicate pages and providing high-quality content for your site visitors.

 2) Google Penguin penalty :

The algorithm basically combats webspam by detecting link spam, site’s backlink profile. According to Google ‘ The penguin algorithm is not actually a penalty. It’s just an algorithm update that causes sites to be devalued or filtered with bad incoming links.

Now, you have learned about SEO, it’s types, Penalties and it’s types. It’s time for you to learn about the common mistakes and it’s the solution to avoid the Google penalty in the year 2020.

Here are the common mistakes made either intentionally or unintentionally which comes back and bites your SEO score.

1) Don’t buy Links

In Search engine optimization you should delay gratification. There are times when you are tempted to follow some shady practices to get higher SEO rankings in the short run. You can end up increasing Search engine ranking positions (SERP) in the short run, but you will be penalized by Google at some point after that.

Buying unnatural or irrelevant links from a website with a higher Domain Authority ( DA ) will be penalized by Google. And a website with higher Domain Authority will play Monopoly by charging more money for people who look for backlinks without Google’s penalty policy and it’s an algorithm.

It is possible to rank your websites without Black-hat SEO practices, by using the right tools and strategy.

So before you start searching for Links, here’s what you should consider :

1) Do extensive research about the competitors

2) Analyze the competitor’s strategy

3) Their total number of Backlinks

4) Backlink Authority

5) Number of No-follow and do follow up backlinks of the competitors

And the best tools out there which take care of A to Z of Link building is SEMrush, Check out its features and pricing too.

2) Keyword stuffing

Any SEO expert will tell you that keyword stuffing is one of the dumbest mistakes made by any website owners. Google has been actively preventing and penalizing websites that keyword stuff for more than a decade. However, Google’s BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) algorithm update has proven that this search engine giant can now understand content as well as, if not better, than a human. Google Algorithm can understand the semantics, i.e, follow of content rather than the exact words, it’s been centralized around natural language understanding. Therefore, search engines naturally better understand when content doesn’t sound natural. Avoid a Google penalty by writing content naturally and follow a flow, just like how you’d talk in real life, and keep your keyword usage around 2-3% is the golden rule of thumb.

So if you want to analyze and include the Money keyword and also by making sure that you don’t stuff your site with keywords, I would recommend you to use SEMrush ( as mentioned above – It is a comprehensive tool on SEO ).

3) Link Cloaking

Despite its infrequent practices, cloaking is when websites and pages attempt to “trick” Google by using the “black hat” SEO tactic of showing a different website to human searchers than it does to Google ( SEO bots ).

This is done using cunning redirect links. Google algorithm will penalize websites that do this because the search giant wants to make sure users don’t click on the link thinking they are going to one site, only to be redirected to a totally different distorted website without the desired information.

In short, it means that building two versions of the article, one for the Google bot and other for a human audience, some of the common black-hat players are SEO guys and affiliate marketers

4) Link Spamming Other Websites

Link spam is the posting of irrelevant links on websites, discussion forums, blog comments, guestbooks or any other online venue that displays user comments.

And this another way to avoid punishment from Google. This is a practice that many agencies used to offer or that people at a company without detailed knowledge of SEO. It is when people simply add a link to their site either manually or with an automated platform with the desire that it will contribute to SEO. People loathe seeing these spammy links and, therefore, are flagged by Google Algorithm and the link spamming website is penalized by reducing the SEO score.

5) Using Shallow or Plagiarised content

As mentioned above, Google’s algorithm, BERT, now can read and comprehend site content similar (semantics ) or better than humans do. This update isn’t affecting all websites completely, but Google is rolling out BERT to affect more and more pages slowly. Therefore, using shallow content on your website can lead to penalties for your SEO rankings. A great way to avoid this is to maintain an ongoing industrial standard blog with well-written related content that is also in-depth.

But on the other hand when you use duplicated content from other sites, then Google takes it exceptionally seriously. This can happen in two ways.

1) First, it keeps pages that contain identical content on multiple websites from being index altogether, and ensure it won’t show up in the search results

2) Second, you can be penalized for posting the same content in different places such as a guest blog, Quora and other Forums with content simply copy/pasted from your website.

You can use the same tools mentioned above (SEMrush

6) Irritating and  interruptive ads

This involves including Ads that make it difficult for visitors who visit the sites to find the information that they are searching for.

There are many ways people do that which is quoted as Spam in Google’s Dictionary:

1) Using gimmicks and tricks to land users on a specific product page or making them manually remove the pop-ups.

2) Also, you might have experienced the same when you clicked on a page hoping to gain an Information or buy a particular product or a service, but you were forcefully landed on an unknown, distorted and spammy page.

This unethical practise which hinders the user’s experience will be penalized by Google and won’t be taken lightly.

7) Critical factors

 Many critical factors like

a) Page load time –

Google has indicated that site speed is one of the parameters used by Google algorithm to rank pages. And research has shown that Google might be specifically measuring time to the first byte of Information received as to when it considers page speed.

So currently your website takes a long time to load, then its time for you to consider alternative Hosting providers

The best tool to decrease the page load time is:

i) Lead pages

ii) Clickfunnels

iii) Grove page

iv) Landing page by

There are many sites that might be posting too many pieces of content without bringing quality to the table. There are many instances where Google has warned many huge websites for this issue.

Having a high quality Creative and informative Infographic gets the users traction and increases the user’s engagement. And as you might have already know the cost of an Infographic is ‘Highway robbery’. Many agencies and Freelancers are charging tons of money to design even a Basic Infographic.
